Shakeology vs Beachbody Performance


“Which is better for results?”


This is a question I get asked quite a bit when the women I connect with what to be a part of my online accountability camps and they are trying to choose between Shakeology and Beachbody Performance challenge or completion packs, which include their fitness program of choice.


I don’t blame them for feeling a little apprehensive and struggling with making the decision. It is hard and, if you are like me and your budget plays a role in the decisions you make, you can’t just go buy everything simply because someone says so and says it is the best. No one needs to not feed their families in order to live healthier. That would be counterproductive now, wouldn’t it?


That being said, allow me to encourage you that if you are able to and want to invest, having Shakeology and Beachbody Performance in your wellness toolbox is fantastic and optimal for the best results you can think of, simply because these products are different from either and are pretty specific in their purpose. So if that is you, awesome! Let me know if we can find the best fitness program for you and get you started.


For those who do have to choose, at least for now, allow me to break these two products down for you a little bit. I love them both, but I probably love one more than the other and that is because of my own personal preference and my own goals. You may feel completely different after reading this and that is okay.


First up: Shakeology


I began using Shakeology back in 2011. I had to be convinced by my coach (yep, I have one too!) in order to start drinking it because I really didn’t believe her when she said that it was delicious, and that it was incredibly nutritious. Delicious and nutritious? Isn’t that an oxymoron? Anyway, it took her awhile to convince me, but once I decided to stop being so stubborn to give it a try (even if it was to try and prove her wrong….and maybe rub it in her face? Sorry Michelle!) I was sold. It was delicious. Better when, after drinking it consistently for lunch every day for about 30 days, I really did notice a difference in my overall energy levels, my body felt satisfied and my cravings for salty junk food (my weakness) dropped quite a bit.


So really, it was her who was able to rub it in my face and say “I told you so.” I hate being wrong.


Shakeology isn’t a magic pill by any means as I still needed to be mindful of what else I was feeding my body, whether I was actually giving it food or if I was just stuffing it with items that didn’t make me feel good. At that time in my life, a young, stay at home wife and mama with two little kids and a husband who worked in vocational ministry, I was craving some good for myself and my body needed it. I was tired of feeling tired and unhealthy all the time. Shakeology was a tool that I didn’t realize I needed until I started using it. Which honestly, that is the way it happens for a lot of people.


So, what is Shakeology good for? For one, it is considered a meal replacement. That could mean breakfast, lunch or dinner. Or you can have it as a midday snack if you are more inclined to eat something a little heartier for your main meals. There is really no wrong way to drink a shake. I don’t think you should get too hung up on the when, unless you are doing a fitness program like 80 Day Obsession where timed nutrition plays a key role in the types of results you can achieve with that program. Otherwise, just drink the shake when it makes more sense for you. Like I stated above, I typically had mine for lunch.


Shakeology is fantastic for those who believe that their overall nutrition habits could be better. The reason for this is because Shakeology has all of the essential vitamins, nutrients, superfoods, antioxidants, fruits, veggies etc that your body craves to perform at its most optimal. Most people are undernourished, even if they may be overfed. Meaning, they may be eating a lot of food, but their bodies are being fed with nutrient dense. Think of it like if you ate a bunch of candy or if you ate a bunch of fruit. Your body feels different! Shakeology helps you get what you need, especially if that is a struggle for you right now.


For those trying to choose between the Shakeology or Beachbody Performance challenge or completion packs, if you need a little extra help in the nutrition department, I highly recommend beginning with the Shakeology pack. You will get your first 30 day supply, a ton of shake recipe ideas, a shaker cup for if you need to just shake and go, and quite a few flavor options. I personally love Vegan Chocolate, Vegan Vanilla or Vegan Cafe Latte.

Y’all. I am just going to tell you this now. Beachbody Performance Energize and Recover are my favorite. Like, full disclosure here, I love it more than Shakeology. I love Shakeology. I have Shakeology. I will drink Shakeology. But I am obsessed with Beachbody Performance….especially their Energize pre-workout supplement. I am not ashamed to admit that I will even take Energize when I am forced to clean my home. No shame!


Beachbody Performance is designed for just that: performance. It helps us perform better, recover faster, helps our bodies cope with muscle soreness, replenish electrolytes during our sweat sessions with Hydrate (which is a much better for your option than those other electrolyte replenishing beverages), helps with muscle fatigue, offer premium results and more. I am a huge fan of exercise supplements. Previously to Beachbody Performance, because at the time there was not really a supplement line that I loved within Beachbody, I regularly used pre-workout and protein shakes for recovery. So when Beachbody Performance arrived, I was so excited. I think I have already gushed enough about my love for Energize. They currently have Lemon and Fruit Punch as their flavors (I love Lemon!) and pretty soon, a brand new flavor will be released (more details coming soon!). For Recover, they currently have Chocolate and Orange and Plant Based Chocolate recover. I personally love the Orange Recover, as it reminds me of an Orange Julius. Who else remembers those?! So yummy!


For those on the fence between Shakeology and Performance, if you are someone who is like me and fitness is really your thing, you enjoy eating healthy and don’t feel like you need too much help in this area, but want something that helps you perform better and recover better during your sweat sessions…..then definitely choose the Performance pack. There are several bundles you can choose from, but typically your pack will include your fitness program of your choice, Energize in the flavor of your choice, Recover in the flavor of your choice, a nutrition guide and more.


The reason I love the Performance line a little more than Shakeology is because fitness is just my thing. I love competing. I love performing. I am far more consistent with taking my pre-workout and my post workout than I am making sure I get in my shake each day. Shakeology is an incredible tool for me to make sure I get in what my body needs, but I just really love investing in the Performance line and having my Energize and Recover instantly on hand when I need and want it. Plus, I am always trying up new fitness programs so it makes me excited to grab my supplements and get to work. Kind of like buying new workout clothes. It motivates me to MOVE.


I hope this helps you a little! I realize that this post is long winded, as I really did try to share the differences in as much detail as I possibly could, while providing personal insight as to why I love and use them as I do.
